optoGuard-EX - Object detection in EX areas

Photo sensors, in conjunction with suitable fiber optic optics, are ideal for use in potentially explosive areas:

• The sensor electronics are placed outside the hazardous area, the light signals are transmitted to the measuring point via the fiber optic cable, and no electrical energy is required at the measuring point.
• Furthermore, the photoelectric energy transmitted via the fiber optics is too low to pose an explosion hazard.
• Depending on the system configuration, applications can be implemented in both sensing and light barrier operation.

We offer you two different solutions for ATEX applications:

• optoGuard-HT:

  In simple cases, ATEX applications can be implemented with correctly configured OptoGuard-HT systems (optoGuard-HT/FOR or optoGuard-HT/FOL).

• optoGuard-EX:

  For applications where gas-tightness must be ensured, we offer special solutions with optoGuard-EX. In these solutions, the optical fiber is split in two, and special, gas-tight wall penetrations allow the light signals to be routed into the sealed-off Ex area. This also ensures complete electrical isolation between the connected system components.

The sensor and fiber optic cable can each be selected from a variety of configuration options. The maximum fiber optic cable length is 12 m (optoGuard-EX 2x 12 m).
